GRILLED SOCKEYE SALMON FILLET ALA DAVE
By Dave Mathews
GREAT TASTING AND HEALTHY
DAVE'S MELT IN YOUR MOUTH GRILLED SALMON FILLET
Eating healthy does not always mean having to scrimp on flavor or quality of food. Here is a dish that is both healthy and flavorful using quality fish too.
I love Salmon! I especially love the flavor and aroma of Sockeye Salmon, fresh off the grill.
I know about 6 different ways to prepare it for a simple yet tasty and flavorful meal.
If I am preparing it for just myself I prefer to have it as plain and simple as possible, so as to enjoy the true flavor of the fish, both in aroma, texture, and taste.
But, my wife is a Filipina, so I can also spice things up just a little to please her and her family or friends too.
I am going to show you how to prepare sockeye salmon fillet cooked both ways.
GRILLED SOCKEYE SALMON FILLET ALA DAVE
<MARINADE>
2 table spoons diced onion, 2 table spoons hot pepper flakes, 1/4 cup pure olive oil, 1/4 cup fresh lemon or lime, 4 cloves garlic diced, 3 T-spoons Balsamic Vinegar, 2 T-spoons tarragon, or cilantro, 2 sprigs fresh dill weed, 6 slices fresh ginger, and 2 table spoons honey.
Blend all of these ingredients together to make your marinade. Make certain to remove the small pin bones from your fillet.
Place your salmon fillet into a large sealable freezer bag and pour in your marinade. Marinade in your fridge, for a minimum of 3 hours, (over night is better) allowing the full richness of the marinade to seep into the flesh of the fish. (Save marinade for basting)
See grilling instructions below and apply your marinade once or twice while grilling for moistness and flavor. If you have marinaded your fillet, remove your dill weed sprigs from the bag and lay your sprigs over the salmon as it grills.
<SIMPLE GRILLED SOCKEYE SALMON> (quick and easy to do)
Pre-heat your grill to a "Medium-High" heat
INGREDIENTS
1 Sockeye Salmon Fillet (2 to 2and1/2 pounds)
Juice of 1/2 a lemon
Fresh ground rock salt, and, black pepper corns
PREP FOR GRILL
Remove any pin bones from fillet, rub gently with some olive oil and grind salt and pepper over the fillet to taste.
GRILLING
Check first for a medium-high temperature on your grill.
Using a paper towel apply a gentle rubbing of olive all over the grill. Season your fillet with salt and black ground pepper. Lay your fillet skin side down ontop of the oiled section and grill for approximately 10-15 minutes. There is no need to close the cover of your grill. (Do not turn fish over) Remove and serve. I like to see some bright pinkness still in the color of the finished product.
For a rustic, hearty, and delicious homestyle dinner, serve this with home-fried or hash-browned potatoes, or your favorite veggies, or salad. Personally I prefer the homefries. Quarter half a lemon and place it in a side dish for "To taste flavoring" at the table.
There you have it. Two delicious ways to grill a Sockeye Salmon Fillet and the taste is to die for.

Just ask Susan: Any time you can get a sale on salmon fillets by almeans take advantage of it. You will definitely enjoy the salmon either way you prepare it.
Yum. I am so grilling salmon tonight. Another Hub that I read yesterday had me wanting it, now you. I give in and look forward to the feast.
Oh Dave..Salmon is my favorite fish.....Yummy...thank you for the great hub!
Dave, great timing, that is whats for eats today! I've got a good sized fillet and it's getting the simple salt pepper and I'll try the oil, as I use butter normally with lemon. yours sound pretty much the same. Lemon then oil? I'm thinking the oil might seal off the meat from the lemon?
voted up, dust
Hyphenbird: If you allow yourself to be tempted by satan, it is a sin. If you allow yourself to be tempted by good food, it is only a sin if you do not try it.
Sunnie: Salmon especially Sockeye, is definitely my favorite too, so during summer when I can do some grilling, I indulge myself.
Dusty if you put the lemon first, the oil will then seal in the lemon. Make sure not to flip your salmon though.
This sounds great Dave. I love Grilled salmon and this recipe looks like a good one to try. If I may suggest, I use grilling spray (found where they offer other cooking sprays) and spray the fish on both sides. It won’t leave the strong olive-oil flavor and prevents sticking tool. When I turn the fish over the skin is loose and since it is not edible, it can be easily removed once the fish has acquired the light pink color. Keep grilling!
Delicious hub. I know fish (especailly salmon) is healthy, but I never know how to cook it . . . Well, not I do. Thanks!
Must: I have used the sprays and you are correct. You can even buy one that gives an olive oil aroma too.
If and when possible I do not recommend flipping fish over though, unless you want that smoky flavor masking the flavor of the fish.
Salmon is my favorite fish of all. For the same taste in fish but at a little less-expensive price, you could substitute speckled trout, as the trout and the samlmon are in the same family.
lol Dave, I use propane so I get the true flavor of the fish...If I want the smoke flavor, I use my smoker and fill it with fresh Mulet. Maybe I should write a hub on smoking fish. I have one on ribs and chicken...Now I'm hungry!
must: Maybe you and I should combine our thoughts and recipes, and form a cookbook? We might earn a buck or two from it. If you check my other postings, you will see I have a few tasty dishes already written up here.
I can see....its good that we are so far apart.....the food bill could get expensive.
I don't induldge my self or my pallet every day, not even every month, but I do like to enjoy the goodness life has to offer, and slurging every so often means a treat for me as I live on a meager pension.
lol...don’t we all.....lots of tuna casserole and ground round In our home

Jo: I'm so happy to learn that you enjoyed this recipe. I often wonder if anyone ever tries them.
Dave, Had to let you know that last night I made GRILLED SOCKEYE SALMON FILLET ALA DAVE and it was absolutely delicious. I opted for the tarragon but next time I make this I will try it with cilantro. Thanks so much.
Susan: It's great to know that some people are actually trying my dishes, Thank you for letting me know. It is even greater to know that those who do try them enjoy them, as they are created with love,my love for food and sharing.
I'm trying to lose some weight and that sounds delicious. Spicing things up seems to help with the satisfaction. Often dieters talk about never being able to be "satisfied" that is the reason portion control is so hard.
Dave I feel for you my brother. I have never had to diet and because of the blandness of diet food, I doubt I ever will.
God seems to keep me sort of in balance so I enjoy what I enjoy.
You will definitely enjoy this recipe, and I hope you share the recipe with others too.
